he's interested in and after looking around, he spots Emily. He goes over
to introduce himself, and she leads him out to her tent. Buck goes out to
make sure JD gets to the girl's tent alright, and when he turns around to
return to the saloon, he hears a scream and sees Wicks beating up one of
the girls. He goes to her rescue and ends up in a fight with Wicks and some
of this men. Chris rides up, with his rifle drawn, and tells Buck they're

and asks to speak to Chris.

Buck, JD and Josiah are discussing the events at Wickstown. JD is mad at
Buck for starting the fight because it means they can't go back.
JD : I really think that Emily and I coulda had
somethin'. I mean, she said that she might not even charge me. [the others
laugh knowingly] What!? It's true!
Josiah : That's too bad, JD, 'cause from where
I sit, that's be right charitable of her.
JD : Whadda you know, preacher? Women never meant
nothin' to you.
Josiah : What I don't know about women ain't worth
knowin'.
JD : Is there anyone alive who doesnt feel
obliged to give me advice?
Scene #4 - The Street

Wicks Town. When they saw someone willing to stand up to Wicks, they decided
it was time for them to leave and find protection. Chris sends Vin out to
check on whether the girls were followed. He wants no part of the situation

JD to go over and talk to Emily, and JD says if Buck is so anxious for a
girl, he should go over and buy one himself. Buck tells JD he doesn't pay
for the time he spends with the ladies - "never have, never will". JD wants
to know how that is possible.
JD : You're talkin' about them like they're your
family.

Vin : Boys, this job gets better every day.
Scene #9 - The Church
-
Ezra is trying to teach the girls how to act like proper ladies, but they
aren't catching on. Nathan comes in and voices his objections to Ezra's
actions.
Nathan : Dignity! You know, it take a bold man
to talk about dignity when he tryin' to sell women off like they're cattle.
Ezra : I'll ignore that.
Nathan : Yeah, you better do that. How else you
gonna get some sleep tonight?
Ezra : Anything else?
Nathan : About makin' profit off the back of another
human being? Hell, yeah, I got a lot to say. But it'd just be wasted on you.
Scene #10 - Saloon
-
Vin comes in for a drink and spots Lydia. She assures him she's not working
and that the girls have agreed to behave themselves as long as they are in
Four Corners.
Vin : Shouldn't you be layin' low? Somebody could
recognize you and tell Wicks.
Lydia : Your friend Larabee send you here to say
that?
Vin : I look like a messenger boy?
Lydia : Sorry. Mr. Larabee ain't as friendly as
he usually is.
Vin : Maybe he don't wanna get caught 'tween you
and the town.
Lydia : You mean 'tween me and Mrs. Travis.

Nora, and he rides off to tell Wicks.

asks her to give the food to Nora. Mary wakes Nora up and puts the tray in
front of her, but Nora is still too weak so Mary helps her get settled and
pours her some coffee. Nora tells Mary about her large family and how poor
they were. While the women are talking, Wicks appears in the doorway.
-
Down in the saloon, Chris, Vin and Lydia are planning the best way to get
the girls to safety. Nora comes in and tells them Wicks has taken Mary and
the girls have to return by day's end or he'll kill her.

Chris and Vin realize they can't just charge into Wickstown so they need
a diversion. Just then they spot Ezra giving "charm" lessons to some of the
girls and an idea is born.

Ezra is the diversion. He arrives at the saloon in Wickstown dressed as a
woman, in a tightly fitting purple dress, looking for work as an entertainer.
She/he sings a song for the men in the tent while the others look for Mary.
Chris finds her tied up in Wicks's tent, and when he helps her outside, Wicks
comes up behind them. He is about to shoot Chris but Lydia, who has followed

are leaving, Wicks manages to get up and pull out his gun, but Buck turns
around and kills him.
